When ingested on a regular basis, VITAMINME PREBIOTIC + PROBIOTIC should improve or normalise the microbial balance in the human intestines and thereby improve the function of the digestive tract and gut.

2. What you need to know before you use VITAMINME PREBIOTIC + PROBIOTIC

A varied diet is the most effective and safe way to achieve good nutrition, health, body composition as well as mental and physical performance.

Do not use VITAMINME PREBIOTIC + PROBIOTIC:

• If you are hypersensitive (allergic) to any of the active ingredients or to any of the other ingredients of VITAMINME PREBIOTIC + PROBIOTIC (listed in section 6).

Warnings and precautions

Take special care with VITAMINME PREBIOTIC + PROBIOTIC::

• If you have a medical condition or if you are currently taking any other medicine.
• You should consult your healthcare provider prior to use if:
  • You have immunodeficiency (a compromised immune system).
  • If you have a peripheral or central venous catheter.
  • If you have compromised gut integrity (such as short bowel syndrome, ulcerative colitis, or intestinal obstruction).
  • If you have valvular heart disease.

Children and adolescents 

Consult a healthcare provider prior to using VITAMINME PREBIOTIC + PROBIOTIC for individuals 18 years and younger.

Other medicines and VITAMINME PREBIOTIC + PROBIOTIC

Always tell your healthcare provider if you are taking any other medicine. This includes all complementary or traditional medicines.

The following medicines may decrease the effectiveness of VITAMINME PREBIOTIC + PROBIOTIC if taken at the same time:

• Antibiotic medicine (used to treat bacterial infections)
• Antifungal medicine (used to treat fungal infections)

You should take VITAMINME PREBIOTIC + PROBIOTIC two hours before or after antibiotic/antifungal medicines.

VITAMINME PREBIOTIC + PROBIOTIC with food and drink

VITAMINME PREBIOTIC + PROBIOTIC has no known interaction with food and drink (see section 3).

Pregnancy, breastfeeding and fertility 

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, please consult your doctor, pharmacist or other healthcare provider for advice before using VITAMINME PREBIOTIC + PROBIOTIC.

Safety for use during pregnancy and lactation has not been established.

Driving and using machinery 

VITAMINME PREBIOTIC + PROBIOTIC is unlikely to have an effect on your ability to drive a vehicle and operate machinery.

Patients should exercise caution before driving or using machinery until they are reasonably certain that VITAMINME PREBIOTIC + PROBIOTIC does not adversely affect their performance.

Important information about some of the ingredients of VITAMINME PREBIOTIC + PROBIOTIC

• If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking VITAMINME PREBIOTIC + PROBIOTIC.
• VITAMINME PREBIOTIC + PROBIOTIC contains sucrose, glucose and fructose which may have an effect on the control of your blood sugar if you have diabetes mellitus.

3. How to use VITAMINME PREBIOTIC + PROBIOTIC

Do not share medicines with any other person.

Always use VITAMINME PREBIOTIC + PROBIOTIC exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

Adults 18 years and older:

Take 1 capsule daily after food, or as recommended by a healthcare provider.

You should take VITAMINME PREBIOTIC + PROBIOTIC two hours before or after antibiotic or antifungal medicines.

Do not exceed the recommended dose.

If you take more VITAMINME PREBIOTIC + PROBIOTIC than you should

In the event of an overdosage, consult your doctor or pharmacist. If neither is available, contact the nearest hospital or poison centre. Take this leaflet and the remaining capsules with you so the doctor will know what you have taken.

If you forget to take VITAMINME PREBIOTIC + PROBIOTIC

Do not take a double dose to make up for individual forgotten doses.

4. Possible side effects  

VITAMINME PREBIOTIC + PROBIOTIC can have side effects.

Not all side effects reported for VITAMINME PREBIOTIC + PROBIOTIC are included in this leaflet. Should your general health worsen or if you experience any untoward effects while taking VITAMINME PREBIOTIC + PROBIOTIC, please consult your healthcare provider for advice.

If any of the following happens, stop using VITAMINME PREBIOTIC + PROBIOTIC and tell your doctor immediately, or go to the casualty department at your nearest hospital:

• swelling of the hands, feet, ankles, face, lips and mouth or throat, which may cause difficulty in swallowing or breathing;
• rash or itching;
• fainting.

These are all very serious side effects. If you have them, you may have had a serious allergic reaction to VITAMINME PREBIOTIC + PROBIOTIC. You may need urgent medical attention or hospitalisation.

Tell your doctor if you notice any of the following:

• Mild gastrointestinal adverse effects such as diarrhoea, indigestion, abdominal pain or cramps, nausea, vomiting, bloating, belching, and/or flatulence.
• Skin rash, itching and redness.

If you notice any side effects not mentioned in this leaflet, please inform your doctor or pharmacist.

If you get side effects, inform your doctor or pharmacist. 5. How to store VITAMINME PREBIOTIC + PROBIOTIC.

• Store at or below 25 °C in a dry place away from moisture and direct sunlight.
• Store all medicines out of reach of children.
• Store in the original container until required for use.
• Do not use after the expiry date stated on the packaging.
• Return all unused medicine to your pharmacist.
• Do not dispose of unused medicine in drains or sewerage systems (e.g. toilets).

4. CLINICAL PARTICULARS

4.1 Therapeutic indications

When ingested on a regular basis, VITAMINME PREBIOTIC + PROBIOTIC should improve or normalise the microbial balance in the human intestines and thereby improve the function of the digestive tract and gut.

4.2 Posology and method of administration

Posology

Adults 18 years and older:

Take 1 capsule daily after food, or as recommended by a healthcare provider.

The administration of antibiotic and/or antifungal medicines and VITAMINME PREBIOTIC + PROBIOTIC should be separated by at least 2 hours.

Do not exceed the recommended dose.

Method of administration

For oral use. To be taken after food.

4.3 Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to any of the active ingredients or to any of the excipients listed in section 6.1.

4.4 Special warnings and precautions for use

• Probiotics may cause pathogenic colonisation in patients with immunodeficiency. Patients with a compromised immune system should consult with a healthcare provider prior to use.
• Rare cases of bacteremia and fungemia have been reported in patients with peripheral or central venous catheters who were taking probiotics. Patients with peripheral or central venous catheters should only take VITAMINME PREBIOTIC + PROBIOTIC under the guidance of a healthcare provider.
• Probiotics may cause pathogenic colonisation in patients with compromised gut integrity, such as short bowel syndrome, ulcerative colitis, or intestinal obstruction. Patients with compromised gut integrity should consult with a healthcare provider prior to use.
• Probiotics may cause pathogenic colonisation in patients with valvular heart disease and use of VITAMINME PREBIOTIC + PROBIOTIC should be avoided prior to dental surgery or other procedures.
• Contains fructose. Patients with the rare hereditary conditions of galactose intolerance e.g. galactosaemia, Lapp lactase deficiency, glucose-galactose malabsorption or fructose intolerance should not take VITAMINME PREBIOTIC + PROBIOTIC.
• Contains sucrose. Patients with rare hereditary conditions such as fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption or sucrase-isomaltase insufficiency should not take VITAMINME PREBIOTIC + PROBIOTIC.
• Contains sucrose, glucose and fructose which may have an effect on the glycaemic control of patients with diabetes mellitus.

4.5 Interaction with other medicines and other forms of interaction

Concomitant use of certain antibiotic and antifungal medicines with VITAMINME PREBIOTIC + PROBIOTIC may decrease its effectiveness. The administration of antibiotic and/or antifungal medicines and VITAMINME PREBIOTIC + PROBIOTIC should be separated by at least 2 hours.

4.6 Fertility, pregnancy and lactation

Safety in fertility, pregnancy and lactation has not been established.

4.7 Effects on ability to drive and use machines

VITAMINME PREBIOTIC + PROBIOTIC is unlikely to affect the ability to drive and/or use machines. Patients should exercise caution before driving or operating machinery until they are reasonably certain that VITAMINME PREBIOTIC + PROBIOTIC does not adversely affect their performance.

4.8 Undesirable effects

VITAMINME PREBIOTIC + PROBIOTIC is generally well tolerated.

Gastrointestinal disorders

Less frequent: mild gastrointestinal adverse effects such as diarrhoea, indigestion, abdominal pain or cramps, nausea, vomiting, bloating, belching and flatulence.

Less frequent: rash, itching and redness, dermatitis.

Reporting of suspected adverse reactions

Reporting suspected adverse reactions after authorisation of the medicine is important. It allows continued monitoring of the benefit/risk balance of the medicine. Healthcare providers are asked to report any suspected adverse reactions to SAHPRA via the “6.04 Adverse Drug Reactions Reporting Form”, found online under SAHPRA’s publications: https://www.sahpra.org.za/Publications/Index/8.

4.9 Overdose

In the event of an overdose, undesirable effects as listed in 4.8 can be precipitated or be of increased severity.

Treatment of overdose is symptomatic and supportive.

Probiotics are non-pathogenic, living microbes that are thought to provide a therapeutic benefit to the host.

Probiotics usually exert their effects in the gastrointestinal tract, where they may influence the intestinal microbiota. Probiotics can transiently colonize the human gut mucosa in highly individualized patterns, depending on the baseline microbiota, probiotic strain, and gastrointestinal tract region.
